In the heart of the historic city of Arvida, the church of Sainte-Thérèse-de-l’Enfant-Jésus is distinguished by its remarkable architecture, which we understand its importance when we approach it on a regional and national scale. The lecture explores the heritage values of this exceptional place and show how its development, taking into account the possibilities and the economic, social and cultural context, makes it possible to envisage the future of the building in an inclusive way, for the whole community.
Architectural historian, Luc Noppen is a professor in the Department of Urban and Tourism Studies at the University of Quebec in Montreal and director of partnerships for the Canada Research Chair in Urban Heritage. During his career, he has published hundreds of books, articles and reports on the art and architecture of churches in Quebec, which he studied for more than fifty years, and is internationally recognized for his innovative work in the field of safeguarding and converting religious heritage.
